Man Dies For 21 Minutes But Comes Back To Life While Being Wheeled To The Morgue

A postman named Joao Araujo has been appraised as one of the many people to cheat death on several counts. The man who died for nearly half an hour came back to life in a miraculous fashion while he was being wheeled to the morgue. For this reason, he has been dubbed as the Miracle Man.

According to a team of medical practitioner, there is no logical explanation for what happened to him. Much more, they could not understand how and why he was able to walk away from hospital just three weeks after the incident. In fact, this is not the first time that Joao escape death. After he miraculously survived an incident that left him with 90 percent blood loss, it was said that he would never survive the operation, or even, walk or move his arms again, but he kicked against all odds, and now, the 48-year-old is still alive to tell his story. It was said that Araujo died at approximately 4pm. His wife and children were already informed that he was dead and even his parents in Portugal were informed of the sad news. But then, as the nurses were moving his body from intensive care towards the morgue, they noticed movement in his body. That was about 21 minutes later. In a miraculous way, circulation spontaneously returned to Joao's heart.

The chief of the cardiology unit, Mark Petersen, told the family the good news but he also warned them that a person dead for longer than four minutes was prone to having a permanent damage to the brain because there was no oxygen accessing the brain in that time. For this reason, Joao was allowed to remain in coma for three days. Before he even woke up, a nickname had been coined for him by the staff. He was called Miracle Man. After he woke up, they asked him a series of familiar questions like his name, age and who his family members were but he did not give them the correct answers because his brain could not process the right details. Instead, he kept telling everyone he had a throat problem just as he rejected interviews from journalists with this assertion: "No! I don’t want to be famous, I don’t want to go on Big Brother!”

Just so he could take a shower, he disconnected himself from all of the cables connecting him to the various machines. This created a panic situation in the hospital. He could not even recognise his best friend and rejected him every time he called on him. When he finally regained his wits, he was sent to hospitals in Bristol and Oxford to determine what had caused his attack and eventual awakening. A panel of seven doctors told the patient that there was no explanation as he had no prior history of heart problems and was in good shape for his age. But it was said that, probably, his brain had not sent the correct signal to his heart. Araujo himself said that, “unlike everything else in the body below the eyes, they said that the brain is a mystery, it’s like a Pandora’s Box. They did not have the knowledge to know the reason behind what happened.”
He was later fitted with an ICD (Implantable cardioverter defibrillator) box against his heart which was programmed to send an electric shock through to his heart if his heart ever stops again. It also monitors his heart rate and sends readings back to the hospital. And within three weeks of the whole incident, he was allowed to go on and carry on with his life normally. He told his experience after he was released: “I remember that my son and wife asked if I could carry on watching the football – because I am crazy for football!” Within three weeks of the attack Joao Araujo was also back to work. He had been working as a lorry driver before the accident. The surprising thing was that not the first time Mr Araujo had had a miraculous recovery. In 2005, he had a crash in Cuenca, Spain which left him with a broken femur, pelvis, four ribs and shoulder blade. He also suffered 90 per cent blood loss, damaging his pancreas and liver. Doctors said that he would never survive the operation but he did survive the operation. Then doctors said that he would never walk or move his arms again but he defied all odds and went on to move normally. The only remembrance from the incident are the has scars all over his body which he calls his tattoos. The miraculous incident which happened when Joao was 38 years old is now history as he now a works as a local postman and lives with his family and a new partner in Linden, Gloucester. He visits the cardiology ward every six months for a check-up and is still known by the staff as the Miracle Man. “Every time I go back, the nurses and the people who work there go 'The Miracle Man is back!' Even people I don’t know or recognise from different areas of the hospital say 'It’s the Miracle Man! Everybody knows you, you are famous!'"

The postman has had only one problem with his heart since the original attack. In 2015, he collapsed while working as a delivery driver in Abergavenny. But just as every, he got back up to his feet, continued working the whole day, drove back to Gloucester, took a shower and then went to the hospital. His boss had thought he was crazy but Joao said, "the doctors said that I have too much energy. It doesn't matter if I am in too much pain, I carry on." Recently, a lady was diagnosed with a rare but unbelievable sleeping beauty syndrome that caused her to take naps for as long as three weeks!

Tension in Kano as Ganduje Wins

Image result for tension in kano
There was palpable tension in the bustling city of Kano yesterday, as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, announced Governor Umar Ganduje of the All Progressives Congress, APC, winner of the governorship election which was concluded on Saturday. He polled 1,033,695 votes to beat his Peoples Democratic Party, PDP opponent, Alhaji Abba Kabir-Yusuf, who got 1,024,713 votes. Amid complaints of manipulation, violence and calls by the PDP on INEC to cancel the supplementary election, which it described as a sham and declare Kabir-Yusuf winner of the election based on the March 9 poll, the electoral umpire returned Ganduje as winner of the election. Ganduje This came on a day Governors Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Simon Lalong (Plateau), and Samuel Ortom (Benue) were re-elected for second terms, having won Saturday’s supplementary polls in their states, while Senator Bala Mohammed awaits today’s court decision to be declared the winner of the governorship poll in Bauchi State. There was also anxiety in Adamawa State, where a court injunction stopped INEC from holding the supplementary election. In Plateau, Senator Jeremiah Useni, the PDP candidate rejected the results and declared his readiness to challenge the outcome of the governorship election in court. Similarly, the APC rejected Tambuwal’s victory in Sokoto. Bala Mohammed awaits court decision in Bauchi Former Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed is on the verge of winning the governorship election in Bauchi, having won the March 23 supplementary election held in 36 polling units, across 15 local government areas of the state. He was also leading after the March 9 election. At the supplementary elections, the Bauchi State Returning Officer, Prof. Muhammed Kyari announced that PDP polled 6,376 votes while the ruling APC scored 5,117 votes. He said of 21,737 registered voters, only 12,109 were accredited to vote. Currently, APC has 470,570 votes, while the PDP has 475,888 votes. The difference was 5,310. However, the winner of the governorship election could not be declared as the result of Tafawa Balewa LGA is to be determined by court. The incumbent governor had filed a case seeking cancellation of Tafawa Balewa results. The Federal High Court in Abuja would hear the case today before the winner can be declared In Benue, Governor Ortom of the PDP was declared winner of the election after winning the supplementary election and altogether polling 434,473 votes to defeat Emmanuel Jime of the APC, who garnered 345,155 votes. How Ortom, Lalong, Tambuwal won Ortom won the election with a margin 89,318 votes. He went into the make-up poll with a lead of 81,554 votes having polled 410,576 votes at the March 9 election at which Jime scored 329,022 votes. However, the INEC declared that the lead margin of 81,554 in favour of the PDP candidate was less than 121,019 registered voters in the 204 polling units across the state where elections were either cancelled or did not hold, necessitating the supplementary exercise, which Ortom also won. In Plateau, Governor Simon Lalong won his re-election bid having scored 595, 582 votes to defeat his closest rival, Useni of the PDP who got 546, 813 votes. Lalong was declared winner by the Returning Officer, Professor Richard Kimbir, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State after the supplementary election held in nine of the 17 local government areas of the state. While making the declaration, Kimbir said valid votes were 1,159,954; rejected votes 16,188; total votes cast 1,176,142. Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto won a very tight governorship race in Sokoto, beating his APC challenger with 342 votes. He scored 512,002 votes to beat Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu of the APC, who garnered 511,660 votes. The votes margin is 342 . He won in 12 of the 23 local councils of Sokoto while Aliyu won in 11. In the supplementary election in 136 polling units across 22 local councils of the state, the APC candidate had 25,515 votes while Tambuwal scored 22,444 votes. The APC scored 486,145 votes in the March 9 governorship election, while the PDP got 489,558 votes, leaving a margin of 3,413 votes. The cancelled votes of 75,403 had made the INEC to declare the poll inconclusive, hence the weekend’s supplementary exercise. Atiku congratulates Tambuwal, Ortom, others Former Vice President and PDP Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, yesterday congratulated Tambuwal on his victory in Sokoto. On his twitter handle @atiku, Atiku Abubakar said: “I congratulate His Excellency, Governor Tambuwal on his re-election and I assure the good people of Sokoto State that they have made the right decision that will see them continue on the path to peace, progress and prosperity.” Also, in a statement by Mr. Paul Ibe, his media adviser, Atiku Abubakar, said the victories of the candidates of the PDP in both Sokoto and Benue states is an acknowledgement from the Nigerian people that it is the only truly national party in Nigeria. He congratulated Governor Ortom of Benue State on his very well deserved re-election. saying “Mr. Ortom is not just a credit to the PDP, he is also an epitome of servant leadership which he urges all and sundry to emulate. With him again at the helm of affairs in Benue, the people of the Bread Basket of the Nation can look forward to times of refreshing and deliverance.” The statement added: “Atiku Abubakar shares solidarity with Alhaji Mohammed and Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, who have made a great showing in Bauchi and Kano states, respectively. Victory is within reach. They have shown that they are men of the people and we are convinced that much good will come out of these men of enviable talents and leadership ability.” We’ll reclaim Plateau mandate in court — Useni While rejecting the result, Senator Useni said in a statement: “My team and I have gone through both the official results released by INEC and the documents submitted by our own field staff. We have every reason to believe that justice has so far not been done to our people in this election, because of massive rigging and electoral shortcomings. “After due consultation, I hereby state that the results announced by INEC are not acceptable to us. Consequently, we have requested our legal team to activate all the due processes to reclaim our cherished mandate. I give you my word that we will pursue this matter diligently, and by the grace of God, we will overturn and recover the people’s mandate. The Restoration Agenda is for the soul of Plateau State, until its glory is restored.” Sokoto poll is inconclusive – APC candidate Addressing newsmen in Sokoto, APC’s spokesman, Alhaji Bello Danchadi, rejected the declaration on the ground that the process was flawed with irregularities, which he said were duly reported to electoral body. Danchadi said the margin of 342 votes was far less than the registered voters in polling units where elections were not held, a development which he said contravened the electoral law. He said: “We draw the attention of INEC to a number of polling units that were cancealed as result of violent attacks by thugs, while others were arbitrarily cancelled to please certain political party interests. “In view of these we deem it necessary to express our disagreement with the action taken by INEC to declare a winner without giving us a fair hearing in our position in the electoral processes.” Complaints, intrigues as APC wins Kano PDP agents stormed out of the Kano Collation Centre as INEC prepared to declare the winner, as they complained that election did not hold in the state due to intimidation and collusion between security agencies and INEC. Earlier in the day, Department of State Service, DSS and police officers sent to the collation centre to provide security clashed over the right to screen persons entering the venue. However, at the end of the exercise, the APC won the supplementary election conducted in 28 affected local councils. It polled 45,876 votes compared to PDP’s 10,239 votes out of the 57,777 accredited voters as declared by the Returning Officer, Prof B. B. Shehu. Before the supplementary poll, Kabir-Yusuf led with a margin of 26,655 votes having garnered 1,014,474 votes while Ganduje scored 987,810 votes. PDP candidate rejects Kano results Before the final results were announced, the PDP candidate warned of “unprecedented political crisis” if Ganduje was declared winner, while rejecting the outcome of the supplementary governorship election. Kabir-Yusuf said such announcement by INEC would throw the state into an “unprecedented political crisis” and will be resisted, claiming that the election was marred by violence, voter intimidation, and irregularities. Ahead of the announcement, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Shehu Riskuwa, appealed for calm and said as far as the issue of violence was concerned, he was sure the security agents had taken note of what happened and would file their report. Kabir-Yusuf, in a statement said: “The PDP gubernatorial candidate wishes to appreciate his teeming supporters who participated in the Kano Re-run elections which clearly gave victory to the PDP. Without your relentless effort, our party would have gotten the winning vote in the first election and the re-run respectively. “It is very unfortunate to have witnessed a gang-up against democracy by the trio of the ruling APC, INEC and the security agencies who connived, attempting to orchestrate broad daylight robbery of the People’s mandate. “We want to categorically state that any desperate attempt by the already compromised INEC officials to declare Governor Ganduje as the winner of this re-run will plunge Kano into an unprecedented political crisis. The attempt would be resisted. “We urge all relevant stakeholders at state and federal government to, as a matter of urgency, call the attention of INEC to the need to immediately declare Abba Kabir Yusuf as the winner of the election, being the candidate with the highest votes in the just concluded election.” Businesses, markets remain shut in Kano Indeed, 24 hours after concluding the election and collation was still on at INEC headquarters, businesses and other activities remained closed. Some major markets within the metropolis, including the Abubakar Rimi market at Sabon Gari in Kano metropolis remained closed. Others include the textiles materials market, Kantin Kwari market and Singer market were also shut. However, the local and inter-state transportation activities are still on while the usually busy roads in the metropolis remain quiet. A resident of Fagge, Malam Shehu, who hawks drinks told Vanguard: “There is anxiety about the election due to the irregularities that marred the re-run election and people are afraid that anything could happen and decided to remain at home.” Uba Sani condemns election violence in Kano Meanwhile, Senator-elect for Kaduna Central, Uba Sani, condemned the violence that characterised the supplementary elections in the Kano, saying it was a threat to democracy. In a statement, Sani said politicians must adhere to the tenets of democracy in order to safeguard it. He said: “I am disturbed by reports from a number of places where unscrupulous persons were bent on subverting the will of the people to freely and fairly elect their leaders. “This is highly regrettable and stands condemned. For one who still bears the scars of our struggle for the enthronement of civil democratic rule in our great country, I enjoin all persons involved in the heinous acts of disrupting elections and preventing the people from casting their votes freely, to desist forthwith. “Our democracy is still nascent; let’s be patriotic enough to guard against anything that will endanger it,” Sani said. CSOs decry spate of violence Also, the Nigerian Civil Society Situation Room expressed concern over what it termed as widespread incidents of violence, thuggery and abuse of the electoral process during the supplementary election in Kano State. The Situation Room, a coalition of over 70 CSOs working in support of credible and transparent elections in Nigeria, in a statement on Sunday, by its convener and Executive Director of Policy and Legal Advocacy Center, PLAC, Mr. Clement Nwankwo. said it was worried that such violence occurred, despite the deployment of top-level Police officials, including a Deputy Inspector General, three Assistant Inspectors-General and Commissioners of Police to the state. It urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to ensure an end to supplementary elections, saying “it appears that the process is now a manipulation tool to circumvent the elections.” The group said it received reports from observers it deployed for the supplementary governorship elections that held in Bauchi, Benue, Kano, Plateau and Sokoto states on Saturday. “Situation Room continues to reiterate that elections can be conducted devoid of violence. Reports received from our observers and partner organisations indicate that the supplementary elections were peaceful in some of the States observed, for instance Sokoto and Plateau, with only limited incidents reported. Violence was reported in some parts of Bauchi State, including Jama’are Primary School, Jama’are Local Government, Bauchi state, where the Police reportedly teargassed and carted away election materials. “There were reports of 4-6 party agents per party in each polling unit as seen in PU 028, Bukul/Bangire Ward in Shira Local Government of Bauchi State. In Duhuwa Polling Unit, Kofar Jauro Ward in Katagum Local Government of Bauchi state, party agents snatched a ballot box. “Kano State however witnessed widespread violence, intimidation and electoral abuse, particularly in Gama Ward, Nasarawa Local Government Area. In polling unit 006, Gama ward, fight broke out resulting in a police officer getting injured. “Similarly, there were reports of widespread reports of thuggery and intimidation of voters, observers and INEC officials by political party agents seeking to disrupt the electoral process and influence voters. Majority of the reports emanated from Gama Ward, Nasarawa Local Government. “In PU 006-011, a party thug used a gun to intimidate observers and voters to vote for his party. Also, in PU 006 domestic observers were harassed by political thugs and prevented from performing their observation duties. “Journalists were also reportedly chased away by thugs. In PU 034-036, political thugs reportedly threw stones at voters on the polling queue. Similar incidents were also cited in Gaya Kudu Ward in Gaya Local Government and PU 002 Chede Ward in Karaye Local Government of Kano State. “From reports received, the incidents of political thuggery could be attributed to the massive deployment of unaccredited political agents to polling units. This was widely reported in Kano state and in some instances in Bauchi State. “In Benue State there were also reports of violence. In Gboko Local Government for instance, a local government returning officer, Professor Comfort Dooshima Tuleun, was shot by unknown gunmen in Makurdi, Benue State, and now hospitalised. There was also the issue of political thuggery, in Uyam Ward in Ukum Local Government of Benue State, armed thugs invaded the polling unit and set the election materials on fire. “Situation Room is concerned with the conduct of security personnel during the supplementary elections. Some reports received showed instances of over-deployment of security personnel such as in Plateau State where there were at least 20 security personnel per polling unit. “Situation Room is further puzzled by the situation in Kano State wherein the deployment of senior Police Officers could not stem the incidents of political thuggery and intimidation. “Reports received from our observers showed instances where security personnel, most especially the Police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, where challenging security situations were met with inaction. “This was observed in Beli Ward in Rogo Local Government and in Gama Ward in Nasarawa Local Government. “Situation Room is concerned that abuses of electoral process and violence have occurred despite the deployment of top-level Police officials, including a Deputy Inspector General (DIG), 3 Assistant Inspectors General and Commissioners of Police. In the previous elections, the State Commissioner of Police took charge without senior level officers. “It is therefore ironic and curious that this level of violence and political thuggery would occur with this quantum of senior Police Officers deployed. Situation Room has always advocated against redeployment of Commissioners of Police ahead of elections. “Situation Room acknowledges the involvement of the military in the periphery of the electoral process in accordance with section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2010. “Some of the flaws observed are recurrent in Nigeria’s elections. As a country, we need to condemn these acts of voter intimidation and insecurity that have reoccurred in the supplementary elections even leading to the shooting of a returning officer. “Safety of Election Day workers, INEC Staff and ad-hoc staff, returning officers and observers is not guaranteed and portends great danger for future elections in Nigeria. “Actions of political parties and their supporters continue to undermine the confidence in our electoral process as well as the rights of citizens to participate fully in elections and cast their votes without fear. “The widespread incidents of violence, thuggery and abuse of the electoral process especially as reported in Gama ward of Kano State must be addressed by INEC. “Situation Room believes that the levels of abuse recorded in Gama ward is of such monumental proportions as to necessitate INEC expunging the outcome of the supposed voting results coming from Gama ward from the final collation of results for the Kano State Governorship elections. “Situation Room also calls on INEC to ensure that there is an end to supplementary elections as it appears that the process is now a manipulation tool to circumvent the elections.”
